Limited Edition Matcha Ice Cream

Shizuoka Japan tea producer and retailer Oyaizu Seiich was awarded Daijinsho during the latest National Tea Products Awards.  This high honor of The Minister’s Award, is given by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for outstanding quality of a tencha.  Since tench is the raw material that matcha is made from, it only stands to reason that a limited quantity of matcha was produced from this elite tea.

In celebration Oyaizu Seiich has created a limited amount of matcha iced cream using this acclaimed tea.  On the 15th and 16th of July they will be selling the gorgeous green treat for 1800 yen a scoop (aprox. $16 US). If you are still not convinced it’s worth booking a last minute flight to Japan, maybe the genuine gold topping on the ice cream will entice you.

If you’re already engaged on those days consider a trip some other time. Shizuoka is home of Mt Fuji, beautiful tea farms and a bounty of agriculture that is well worth a visit any time of year.
